There are many factors that go into the cost of completing your Private Pilot License. You will need to purchase learning materials, a headset, and a logbook at the minimum. Below you will find a cost breakdown based on the minimum requirements set forth by the FAA. While there are some students who are able to fly the minimums and take their check-ride, it is more common to fly between 50 and 70 hours before being ready to complete your check ride.

Instrument Pilot Cost Breakdown
A prerequisite to applying for the Instrument Airplane Checkride is obtaining 50 hours of cross country Pilot in Command (PIC) time. During the private pilot license, a pilot generally receives 5-10 hours of cross country PIC. If you require the remaining 40 hours of cross country PIC time, then use the bottom line total “Average total with 40 hours Cross Country PIC” which adds $6,200 to the price (average rental price of $155/hour x 40 hours = $6,200.)
